Pennsylvania has a long and rich tradition of mining especially for anthracite and bituminous coal as well as iron. What is not generally known however is the state is also produced a considerable amount of gold.

The eastern part of the state is covered with crystalline rocks producing gold lodes as well as placer gold. This gold weathers out of the crystalline rocks and is collected in the rivers and streams of eastern Pennsylvania. This is not the only source of gold however, in the western part of the state if the last glacier failed to get into Pennsylvania there are several that probably did during the past million years.

Although the eastern part of the state is mostly covered with crystalline rocks that produce gold as low gold that weather is out and becomes placer gold that collects in the rivers and streams found in eastern Pennsylvania. Far from being the only part of the state containing placer gold the rest of the state has been glaciated one or more times. If the last glacier missed getting into Pennsylvania there are any number of preceding glaciers that may have.

One of the places where gold has been found is along the Susquehanna River where it has been found as both nuggets and flakes of gold. Generally Wyoming County has been a good place to look for gold as well as in the surrounding counties. In York County placer gold is associated with the deposits of diabase that make up the tops of many ridges. The action of weathering releases the gold from bedrock allowing it to migrate downhill into the streams and rivers in the area.

Gold is often found associated with granular magnetite such as that found in Cornwall Pennsylvania near the iron mines. It should be noted that a lot of the gold found in Pennsylvania has been associated with the iron mining industry. This is not the only area where gold is associated with iron. The gold deposits of Nova Scotia, Canada are often associated with granular magnetite.

The best way to find out where the gold is in Pennsylvania is to research old newspapers and town histories. The state only keeps track of commercial mining operations and not that of individual prospectors. Old newspapers are often the source of stories about where one of the local citizens has found gold in their town.

Pennsylvania technical schools offer training for people who want to have a career in various industries related to the technical field. Some of the industries that hire graduates of these schools are commercial truck driving, automotive technology, machinist technology, electrical technology, and refrigeration/ac technology.

Some people choose to attend technical schools over regular colleges because of the reduced amount of time that is required in completing their education. While traditional colleges require their students to obtain a 4 year undergraduate degree in their field of study (then 2 or 3 more years to complete a Master’s program), most tech schools have programs which students can complete within two years or less.

When choosing a technical school, students must keep in mind these twoimportant things. First, they should look for a school that has a high job placement rate. This is a good indicator that their students go straight into the labor force after they finish their training. Second, a good school must have the most advanced facilities to make sure that their students are equipped with the latest technology in their area of study.

The cost of studying in a technical school varies from one school to another. For this reason, aspiring students must verify all costs prior to enrolling in any program. Many schools offer financial aid to their students who might find it difficult to pay for their own education. This aid comes in the form of grants, which need not be paid back and loans, which students need to pay back at a later time.

There are many education and career benefits that students in the East Coast area can gain from enrolling in one of the Pennsylvania technical schools. Among these benefits is hands-on experience, which complements the theories they learn inside the classroom. Their lab time is the best way for them to learn how to apply the theories they learn in the workplace. Another benefit is learning some practical courses that are related to their field. Next to practical courses, students learn skills which they apply immediately to their jobs right after graduation.

Home to many different cultures and regions, Pennsylvania has something to offer every family looking for a new vacation spot. From the Hershey, Pennsylvania region – which houses not only the famous chocolate company’s factory tour, but also a large theme park, HersheyPark – to the large cities of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, there is something for everyone. The midsection of the state also houses one of the country’s largest groupings of Amish families; known as Amish Country, this area around Lancaster, PA, is like stepping back in time. The motorhome lodgings in Pennsylvania make staying in this diverse area easy – there are parks around the entire state.

Amish Country takes up a large portion of the middle of the state of Pennsylvania. Also known as Pennsylvania Dutch country (named for the “Deutsch” or Germans who settled here), this area encompasses the towns and cities of Lancaster, Hershey, and Reading, Pennsylvania – as well as many other small villages and towns. There are spots throughout the region that offer a glimpse into the daily life of the Amish who live here, and many families have small shops or stores that sell their wares. These can range from furniture to jams, jellies and other homemade food products – all made by hand.

If you’d like to explore the area around Hershey, and enjoy not only the chocolate themed town but the Pennsylvania Dutch country surrounding it, the MOTORHOME lodgings in Pennsylvania in this area are perfect for your stay here. The Hershey Conewago Lodging, located in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania is an ideal spot for your stay. With 160 motorhome and tent sites, there are a variety of different levels of service to choose from. 85 of the sites are motorhome hookups with water and electric, and 55 are full hookups – including water, electric and sewer.

All sites at the Hershey Conewago Lodging include fire rings and picnic tables, and there are many other amenities available on site. A pond is on site, along with free hot showers and clean restrooms for guest use. Laundry facilities, a large pavilion and a large swimming pool are also on site, and a sand covered playground is perfect for the littler guests. A country store is provided on site as well, as is a game room and mini golf course. A nightly kid friendly movie is a perfect way to wind down after a day full of activities.

Pennsylvania is full of different things to see and do, and staying at one of the motorhome lodgings in Pennsylvania is a perfect way to be able to enjoy them all. The many different regions allow for families to enjoy activities and attractions on their trip to this state that can’t be found anywhere else.

Pennsylvania’s largest city – also the second-largest city on the east coast and the fifth-largest metropolitan area in the United States – is one of the most important cities on the east coast, although surprisingly few travellers stop here en route between New York and Washington DC. Philly offers many attractions including the vibrant Center City and the Independence National Historical Park area and is well worth a look.

Historically, Philly has been an important city. At one point it was the largest city in the United States surpassing even New York City in importance as a cultural and business city and it was the US capital until the 1790s.

Much of central Pittsburgh appears rather confusing for those try to travel around by car, with roads heading in many different directions and often being one-way only. Therefore, a large number of tourists visiting Pittsburgh simply use local bus transport or the ‘T’ subway trains, choosing only to rent a car if day trips outside of the city are planned.

Run by the Port Authority of Allegheny County, the city’s public transport network provides good value and a very cheap way to travel to all of the city’s main neighborhoods. In you have time on your hands, then do consider traveling around downtown Pittsburgh on foot or by bicycle, particularly since there are so many appealing trails along the riverbanks.

Major Airport: Pittsburgh International Airport

Companies with a Major Presence: U.S. Steel Corp., Highmark, PPG Industries, PNC Financial Services Group, H.J. Heinz, University of Pittsburgh, Giant Eagle, Mellon Financial, FedEx Ground, Allegheny Technologies

America’s most livable city. Recession-proof. Stable. One of America’s cleanest cities. One of America’s strongest housing markets.

This city of accolades? Pittsburgh, Pa.

Pittsburgh just celebrated its 250th birthday, but the most important celebrations of its vitality may have come from outsiders, including The New York Times, Forbes and Time. This city on three rivers may often get lumped with Rust Belt towns like Detroit and Cleveland, but analysts perceive its economy as evolved with a resilience more similar to New York’s and Chicago’s. Time dubbed it the “One Economic Bright Spot on Main Street.”

The region’s home prices rose in 2008, unemployment is below the national average and the Pittsburgh Steelers won the Super Bowl, so Pittsburghers were buoyant even when temperatures dropped below zero. The region learned decades ago how to tough out economic problems when its leading economic engine, the steel industry, collapsed.

Steel companies are still planning billions of dollars of investment in southwestern Pennsylvania, but the biggest economic fields are now health care, education and banking. A bevy of small tech startups are a new source of pride and hope for a region eager to grow.

Despite all the recent good publicity, Pittsburgh was still one of the fastest shrinking U.S. cities in recent years and its government is saddled with debt. The region’s history of parochialism may be part of the problem, according to some legislators who have been pushing for consolidation.
